I’m known in my inner circle of friends as “the most frugal person ever.” 💰 I love to find the deals, the cheap stuff and especially the free stuff. It’s like a hobby for me.
But once in a while I’ll shock and awe my friends by laying down a small or large wad of cash for something. To me tho it’s no surprise at all. The things I invest in are always in total alignment with my values, needs, desires and goals. I talk all about some of those investments in this blog post right here.
I know what I want and I go get it. 🎯
When it comes to our business it’s sooooo tempting to just stick with #allthefreestuff and whittle together the solutions we need with never ending Google searches:
👉 Instead of investing in a ready-made budgeting or bookkeeping system, we do our best to create a spreadsheet ourselves.
👉 Instead of buying that CRM platform, we piece together a client management process with what we already have.
👉 Instead of hiring a podcast editor, we learn how to do it ourselves and hate every minute of it. 😝
I’m totally cool with learning new skills and DIY but always trying to do this kinda stuff 👆 on your own takes so much time away from you and in turn away from your business.
Have you ever come across an awesome sounding workshop / eCourse / membership / mastermind / other biz thing, and thought “Ohhhh that sounds like exactly what I need!” but when you got to the price tag your thoughts flip to “Ya know what, never mind. I probably don’t need it as much as I thought I did.” 🤷♀️
Think about why your perspective flipped there. ↩️ Making the decision to not spend dollar bills on something for your biz just so you don’t have to spend the money, is not the best basis for a decision.
A New Perspective On Investing
Instead, think of spending money on those things that will save you time and / or allow you to spend more time on your money-making activities as not just an investment, but an investment with compound interest.
Because investing in those things will give you back time (hey look at that, it is possible to create more time!) means you can spend that time on the business activities that will directly result in you making even more money.
Stuff like learning to edit podcasts, creating spreadsheets and piecing systems together do not directly bring you more money. But they still need to be done: make the investment to get them done more efficiently so you can open up your time to make more of those dollar bills. 💵
